• The Chicago White Sox defeat the Chicago Cubs, four games to two, in the World Series

• March 31 - The Intercollegiate Athletic Association of the United States (IAAUS) is established to set rules for amateur sports in the United States. The IAAUS would later become the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in 1910.
• May 22 - The 1906 Summer Olympics, now not recognized as an Olympic Games, opens in Athens.

• October 26 - Primo Carnera, future Heavyweight boxing champion (d. 1967)
