Australian Terriers are a breed of dog. They stand around 10 inches high at the withers. They were developed from other terrier breeds as a companion and for catching rats.

While not always the prettiest dog to look at, they have many good qualities: They are friendly, loyal and tough. Their coats need brushing only once a week. They like a lot of room to move around (a large backyard is ideal). A thirty-minute walk each day seems to keep them fit and happy.

Some dogs of the breed seem to have a stubborn streak and can be difficult to train.
