Babylon Village
Babylon Village, Suffolk County, New York, is a village on the south shore of Long Island. Its official name is The Incorporated Village of Babylon, and is distinguished from the Town of Babylon, of which it is a part.It was once known as South Huntington (or Huntington South). It was home to the planner Robert Moses. South of Montauk Highway there are some very affluent neighborhoods. The village received the name Babylon because it was infamous for wild and crazy parties especially in the summer. Babylon was at one time a stagecoach stop which later became a trolley stop. The area was home to about 12 hotels and resorts. The most famous was The Argyle featuring 350 rooms; today a portion of the resort remains as a beautiful park with exquisite fountains. Babylon is very close to Fire Island; many would come out to Babylon and travel for leisure to the infamous party islands off the coast of Long Island. Babylon was also home to the first professional African-American baseball team, the Babylon Black Panthers. The median income for a household in the village south of Montauk Highway is $150,000, and the median income for a family is $250,000.
Today the village is known for its restaurants; as well during Christmas the town hosts a wonderful walk through the village and in the autumn a beautiful crafts fair.
Easily accessible from the LIRR, Long Island railroad. It is situated between Lindenhurst-West Babylon and West Islip.
Statue of Robert Moses was erected on Main Street.
