Calumet County is a county located in the State of Wisconsin. As of 2000, the population is 40,631. Its county seat is Chilton6.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,028 km² (397 mi²). 828 km² (320 mi²) of it is land and 200 km² (77 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 19.44% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 40,631 people, 14,910 households, and 11,167 families residing in the county. The population density is 49/km² (127/mi²). There are 15,758 housing units at an average density of 19/km² (49/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 96.68% White, 0.31% Black or African American, 0.34% Native American, 1.55% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.38% from other races, and 0.74% from two or more races. 1.07% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 14,910 households out of which 38.50% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.00% are married couples living together, 6.50% have a female householder with no husband present, and 25.10% are non-families. 20.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 7.50% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.70 and the average family size is 3.15.

In the county, the population is spread out with 28.60% under the age of 18, 7.20% from 18 to 24, 32.00% from 25 to 44, 21.40% from 45 to 64, and 10.80% who are 65 years of age or older.
