Claude Lorrain (Lorraine, c1604 - Rome, November 23, 1682) was a French painter considered to be one of the greatest landscape painters.

Destined to be a pastry chef, at the age of 14 he went to Rome, Italy where he became a pupil of Agostino Tassi.
