The Committees of Correspondence were organized on November 1, 1772 by Samuel Adams and Joseph Warren in Massachusetts to keep colonists informed of British actions against the colonies, and to plan a concerted response. Other colonies adopted the practice, and the system soon became one which united the 13 colonies.
