Complementary DNA
Complementary DNA (abbreviated cDNA) is single-stranded DNA complementary to a spliced mRNA template. Usually the template is the exons of an eukaryotic gene. In prokaryotes, the cDNA matches the primary mRNA transcript, as there are no exons or introns.cDNA is assembled by the enzyme reverse transcriptase, and may be used in gene cloning or as a gene probe.
