Conker

For people who check facts
Conkers are the nuts of the Horse-chestnut tree Aesculus hippocastanum. They are poisonous if eaten, containing the alkaloid saponin, though deer and some other mammals are immune and can eat them. They are commonly used for the children's game 'conkers', where a nut is threaded on a piece of string about 60cm long; the children then take turns at hitting one nut with another, with the last nut to become smashed being the winner. Sometimes in preparation for this game, the nuts are heated to harden them.
