Flag of Ukraine
The national colors come from the Coat of Arms of Galicia, first documented during the battle of Grunwald. The flag of Ukraine was adopted in 1918, and is interpreted as the blue sky (symbolizing peace) over fields of wheat (symbolizing prosperity). Under Soviet rule the flag was forbidden as a symbol of nationalism. After the restoration of Ukrainian independence some associated the flag mainly with the groups that collaborated with Germans during World War II, the majority however recognized its much older tradition and officially restored it as the national flag in 1992.
