Helsinki Metropolitan Area
The Helsinki Metropolitan Area is a very close combination of cities around Helsinki, Finland, which form the largest urbanized area in the country. The population of the metropolitan area is 976,222 (as of 2003-12-31). The Helsinki Metropolitan Area Council serves as a co-operation agency of the area, mainly providing for regional public transport and waste management services.
The Metropolitan Area covers four municipalities: (Swedish names in parentesis.)
Municipalities
Sometimes also the neighbouring municipalities of Järvenpää, Kerava, Kirkkonummi, Nurmijärvi, Sipoo, and Tuusula are regarded as being part of the Helsinki Metropolitan Area.
