Ice floe
An ice floe is a flat mass of ice that floats on the surface of the sea.In 1991, Russia suspended its Arctic missions when an ice floe carrying a polar expedition broke up, after it was caught in a warm stream.
Russia's return to the Artic was disrupted again in 2004 when an ice floe beneath a research base broke up, forcing the researchers to evacuate.
