Ionotropic receptor (also ligand gated ion channel) is a transmembrane receptor bound with an ion channel. If the receptor binds with it's agonist (and if all additional conditions like right membrane potential, absence of blockator, ion block, presence of desired co-agonists are met) - then the ion channel opens.
