Janet Napolitano

For people who check facts
Janet Napolitano (born 29 November 1957) is the current governor of Arizona, a member of the Democratic Party, elected in 2002. Some experts and pundits initially considered Napolitano to be a possible running mate for presidential candidate John Kerry in the 2004 election.

In 1998, she had been elected Attorney General of Arizona, after having served as United States Attorney for the District of Arizona, a position to which she was appointed in 1993 by Bill Clinton. During her term as Arizona's attorney general, Napolitano was diagnosed with breast cancer, and underwent a mastectomy. She won the gubernatorial election of 2002 with 47% of the vote, succeeding Jane Hull and defeating her Republican opponent, former congressman Matt Salmon who had received 44% of the vote.

Napolitano was born in New York City and raised in Pittsburgh and Albuquerque, New Mexico. She graduated from Santa Clara University in California and University of Virginia law school.
