The Julio-Claudian dynasty was the series of the first five Roman Emperors; they ruled the Roman Empire from 27 BCE to 68 CE, when the last of the line, Nero, was assassinated.

The dynasty is so named from the nomina or family names of its first two emperors: Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus and Tiberius Claudius Nero - the ruling line was founded upon an alliance between these two families.

Emperors of the dynasty:

  1. Augustus (27 BCE14 CE)
  2. Tiberius (14–37)
  3. Caligula (37–41)
  4. Claudius (41–54)
  5. Nero (54–68)

See the Julio-Claudian family tree for the intricacies of the family relationships of these rulers.
