Marquette County is a county located in the State of Wisconsin. As of 2000, the population is 15,832. Its county seat is Montello6.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,203 km² (464 mi²). 1,180 km² (455 mi²) of it is land and 23 km² (9 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 1.92% water.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 15,832 people, 5,986 households, and 4,166 families residing in the county. The population density is 13/km² (35/mi²). There are 8,664 housing units at an average density of 7/km² (19/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 93.66% White, 3.44% Black or African American, 1.04% Native American, 0.27% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 0.38% from other races, and 1.11% from two or more races. 2.66% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 5,986 households out of which 26.90% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.70% are married couples living together, 6.70% have a female householder with no husband present, and 30.40% are non-families. 25.40% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.30% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.41 and the average family size is 2.86.

In the county, the population is spread out with 21.10% under the age of 18, 6.70% from 18 to 24, 28.90% from 25 to 44, 25.00% from 45 to 64, and 18.30% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 41 years. For every 100 females there are 118.90 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 123.70 males.
