Megalosaurus
Megalosaurus was a carnivorous dinosaur of the Middle Jurassic period, living between 170 and 155 million years ago. The known material is rather fragmentary, however, and many species have been erroneously referred to it. Megalosaurus was the first dinosaur fossil discovered (in England in 1676). It was also the first dinosaur given a scientific name - by William Buckland in 1824. Megalosaurus was a tetanuran theropod, related to other European spinosauroids. This article is a stub.
