Newtype
In the original Universal Century (UC) timeline of Gundam, a Newtype is believed to represent the next stage of human evolution, brought about by mankind's migration into space. Newtype ability manifests itself primarily as heightened empathy and awareness, which means that Newtypes make ideal Mobile Suit pilots. Newtypes also appear in the alternate After War (AW) universe of Gundam X, but their abilities cannot be considered representative of Newtypes in the UC universe.Some Newtypes appear in the alternate Cosmic Era (CE) universe of Gundam Seed, but all Newtypes in that universe have died by the end of the series (early speculation that Coordinators were the same thing as Newtypes proved unfounded).
Newtype is also the name of a monthly Japanese anime magazine, named for the Newtypes of the UC Gundam universe. The magazine(published by Kadokawa Shoten)was first published in Japan in March 1985, and now has an American edition Newtype USA.
