Ran, also referred to as "the goddess of the drowned", is the moody and sometimes treacherous goddess of the seas and waters in Norse mythology. She is the wife of Aegir and collects the corpses of the drowned in a net. She was reputed to be cruel and would lurk near treacherous rockes, luring ships to their doom. She had nine daughters with Aegir called billow maidens, including Bylgia and Atla.
