Sergey Mikhaylovich Darkin
Sergey Mikhaylovich Darkin (Russian: Сергей Михайлович Дарькин) is currently a governor of Primorsky Krai, Russia.He was born on December 9, 1963 in Bolshoy Kamen, Primorsky Krai. He went to school in Artyom, and then later in Vesyoly Yar settlement.
After graduating school he entered Far Eastern Naval College and simultaneoulsy started working as a docker in Vladivostok port. He graduated the college with high honors in 1985, and chose to continue with graduate studies. Having completed graduate studies he worked as a stevedore in Vladivostok port.
In 1989 he becomes deputy director of JSC Dallizing. In 1991 he founded Roliz company. The company's activities included ship building, and later fishing. He was the president of that company until his election as a governor of Primorsky Krai in 2001.
In 1998 Sergey Darkin also became a president of Primorye bank.
On May 27, 2001 in the first round of governor elections he received the majority of votes (24%), which, however, was insufficient for him to become a governor according to the election laws. The election was repeated on June 17, 2001, and Darkin obtained 40.17% of votes. He became an official governor of Primorsky Krai on June 25, 2001, succeeding governor Yevgeny I. Nazdratenko
The governor has three daughters (one of which was adopted). His younger daughter was born on April 18, 2001, on the day when Darkin submitted a registration request to participate in the governor elections.
Sergey Darkin's hobbies include volleyball, scuba diving, fishing, and hunting.
