A sulfhydryl group, also named a thiol group, is composed of a sulfur and a hydrogen atom (-SH). It is the functional group of cysteine, and therefore plays very important roles in biological activities (both structurally by way of disulfide bridge formation, and catalytically ones) of proteins. Sulfur atom in sulfhydryl group is a moderate nucleophilic group.
