Sweet woodruff (Galium odoratum Rubiaceae) has leaves that become very fragrant when dried. It is used to flavor drinks and is mixed in white wine and beer, especially in Germany. White wine flavored with woodruff and berries is known as May wine. Sweet woodruff is also an ingredient in some sausages.

The plant is a favorite ground cover in shady places. The tiny white flowers and verticillate leaves make an unusual but charming bed.
