Uri Avnery

Uri Avnery (born September 10, 1923) is an Israeli journalist and peace activist. He was a member of the Knesset from 1965 to 1973 and again from 1979 to 1981. Earlier he was a member of the terrorist organization Stern Gang as well as being famous for his fighting as a part of the Samson Foxes jeep unit during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. He later turned to pacifism and became leader of the Gush Shalom movement.
