Waregem
Waregem is a municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Beveren, Desselgem, Sint-Eloois-Vijve and Waregem proper. Waregem is also part of the county of Kortrijk. On January 1st, 2000 Waregem had a total population of 35,839 (17,731 males and 18,108 females). The total area is 45.26 km² which gives a population density of 791.85 inhabitants per km².Waregem is well-known for its annual horse races at the local hippodrome, including the Grand Steeple Chase, which occurs at the end of August. In local language this event is known as Waregem Koerse and is accompanied by a week of festivities.
