Welsh National Opera

The Welsh National Opera (WNO) was founded in Cardiff in 1943.

Its musical directors have included:

• Richard Armstrong (1973-1986)
• Charles Mackerras (1987-1992)
• Carlo Rizzi (1992-2001)
• Tugan Sokhiev (2003-)

In 2004 the company will move into new premises in the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay.
