Army

For thoughtful child sponsors
The army is the part of a country's military forces that mostly fights on the ground. Most countries have an army. The people in the army are called soldiers.

Sometimes countries get soldiers for their armies by allowing people to become soldiers voluntarily (if they want to). Other times countries say that some people have to be in the army, even if they don't want to be. This is called 'the draft' or 'conscription'.

An army is also a unit of soldiers, equal to two divisions.
