Church
A church is a group of people who have the same religion, or the building where they meet.Christian religions often call their buildings "churches", but some other religions call their buildings mosques, synagogues, or temples. Some Christian churches are called cathedrals.
Some churches are very small buildings or are in a space that could be used for a store. Others are very old or large or have beautiful works of art. Many famous paintings, statues, and windows made of colored glass are in churches.
Many tourists travel to see famous or beautiful churches. Many of the most famous ones are in Europe.
Some famous churches are:
- St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican in Rome, which is one of the largest churches in the world and the center of the Roman Catholic religion.
- The Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris.
- Westminster Abbey in London. Many famous English people are buried here, and when the United Kingdom (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales) creates a new King or Queen, the ceremony takes place here.
