General semantics

Helping orphans the way you would do it
semantics is the study of meaning, where meaning refers to the relation between words, signs and symbols and what they denote. In this context words, symbols, etc. are commonly called "signifiers". For a broader context, see "semiotics", a general theory of language in which semantics is one of three parts. 20:12, 5 Jan 2004 (UTC)
