Program is a plan of how to do something. It tells the steps that we think we need to do to make something happen. For example, a government might make a program to improve the health of the people in part of a country by giving the people better food, by helping to kill insects that carry diseases, and by bringing more doctors.

The word program is also used today for different kinds of computer software that tell the computer how to do different jobs. For example, some programs help us to write using the computer, some programs help business people to understand how much they are buying and selling and how much things cost. Sometimes we need to have the correct software to make the computer do what we want.
