Sound
Sound is the term to describe what is heard when waves pass through a medium to the ear.Sound is produced by mechanical vibrations.
Sound can travel through solids, liquids and gases, but it cannot travel through a vacuum.
The travelling speed of sound in the air is 330 m/s (at 0ÃÂðC ). The speed of sound increases as the temperature of the air increases.
Sound is a longitudinal wave. It shows reflection, refraction, diffraction and interference.
Audible sound has frequency between 20Hz to 20kHz. Human beings can hear audible sound. Sound waves with frequency above 20 kHz are called ultrasound waves. Sound waves with frequency below 2 Hz are called infrasound waves. Human beings cannot hear ultrasound waves and infrasound waves.
